St Andrew's Update Trinity 3 2025

Last Sunday, being the first of the new month, was busier in terms of services of worship and other events.  Before the 10am All Together Eucharist, the once-a-month 8am Said Holy Communion, Order One Traditional, took place, facing the Memorial Altar.  Using the 1662 BCP, this quieter service with a smaller congregation attending, took place before the weather outside brought steadier and then heavier rains.  Reverend Liz's homily contained questions upon which we could ponder whilst sitting in the pews in silence.  How could we sum up the Christian Faith?  Could we perhaps think of a simple 'catchphrase'? We are all aware of the Nicene Creed which apparently has been stated for 1,700 years.  Is this our formal declaration of what we believe?  We are to respond to the Good News of the Gospels.  As followers of Christ, we should bear in mind that we are all on a journey of discovery.  Perhaps we can all trace our faith through a self-documented 'time-line'.  We can, of course, be selfish and fall into the habit of looking inwards.  We can belong to some sort of 'holy club' and a 'closed shop'. Instead, we can be a believer in mutual encouragement and welcome fellow travellers in seeking God.  Perhaps we can 'walk the street', so to speak, being sent out into the World as part of the Body of Christ.

Later, for those who had booked a place, including members of the public, particularly from in and around Biggleswade, a feast of three courses in the Chapter House was provided and as usual, it was supreme in both quality and quantity, made possible by a band of church members and helpers.  Thanks were rightfully extended for this provision of food and hospitality and our prayers were extended to those who were unable to attend, particularly for those undergoing hospital treatment.  Later on, a number were anticipating great entertainment and comradery at the Bigg Theatre, sharing songs from the 1940's era, paying tribute to the sacrifices made in times of national emergency.

We are looking forward to our annual Summer Holiday Club which starts on Monday, 11th August to Thursday, 14th August with the big finale on Sunday, 17th August with a Barbeque in the church grounds.  Anyone who is interested to know more had better get a move on because by the 6th July, over 75% of the allocated spaces had been sold.  Go to our church website.  This year's theme is Jungle Adventure.

This Sunday, 13th July, our Summer Concert starts at 3pm, with the East Beds Chamber Choir and there are refreshments afterwards.  Tickets are £12 on the door and accompanied under 18's go free.  The afternoon consists of sacred and secular, modern and traditional music.

This Saturday, the 12th July, the day before the concert, there is our usual Coffee Shop between 10 and noon, in the Chapter House, including Craft and Chat and so if you have some crafty project on the go, why not bring it along and join those of like mind and compare notes over a cupper and some light-hearted chit-chat as well.
