Those who travelled to last week's 10am Parish Eucharist at St Andrew's did so in the rain which to some may have seemed that our weather was back to normal! It did, of course, brighten up later but we are definitely well into Autumn. No repeat mention was made in the formal way about the recent Country Fayre. We have moved on with our usual routines, with the ever onward programme of things planned. Reverend Liz announced that later on, after the service, the Holy Baptisms of Maisie and Mollie, would take place. We wish them, their family and all concerned, well for the present and future.
Reader Rosemary's homily was very much focused upon the Readings that had just taken place which are deeply rooted staples, mainly defining 'riches' in their different forms, whether they be spiritual or earthly and with serious cautions being directed toward the latter of the two. 'Lazarus at the Rich Man's Gate' is clearly a parable about the gulf between rich and poor which continues to be a reality. The question remains as to how we use our possessions. God cares about right and wrong. It is not necessarily about Judgement. We should be contented and not rely on possessions. The point is that we have another life after death. Meanwhile, we can make a difference.
Today, Friday, 3rd October, at 7pm, the Friends of St Andrew's, a long established body which safeguards the fabric of the building and enhances our present and future uses of it, is having their AGM and a social evening, during which a past incumbent will be welcomed back and we are looking forward to his on site talk about our beautiful Millennium Window in the church. This Saturday, 4th October, there is our usual Coffee Shop between 10am and 12pm. On this Sunday,5th October, there are two services of worship in the morning, namely, 8am Said Holy Communion which is the traditional Order Two and 10am Harvest Thanksgiving, All Together Eucharist. If you particularly like a full-bodied church pipe organ you will not be disappointed.
We are open for private prayer from Mondays to Saturdays between 9am to 4pm. All are welcome. Please refer to notice boards or our website for further events which include a Play the Organ Day and an Oktoberfest concert. All coming up very soon. Enjoy your week.
