St Andrews Update Easter II 2026

In last Sunday's 10am Parish Eucharist, we were pleased, once again, to welcome Fr. Ian to Saint Andrew's.  It was the Second Sunday of Easter during which we heard about that particular disciple of Jesus, so often labelled as 'Doubting Thomas'. Indeed, this expression has become part of the coinage of the English language.  In his homily, the celebrant shared his thoughts, stating that Thomas was and is rather like us.  He had been absent when Christ had appeared amongst his disciples after his crucifixion, giving those present living proof of having conquered death.  Yet, Thomas needed to see for himself.   Resurrection was hard to believe.

When Christ does appear to Thomas, he is invited to touch his very wounds.  Thomas then takes a leap of faith, realising that Christ is God.  His true identity is finally acknowleged.  Today, we hold on to our faith, despite niggling doubts. At church, the spoken Creed declares our faith, as in Baptism and Confirmation.  Yet, Thomas remains a model for all of us.  It is okay to ask questions.  The heart of our faith is about encountering Jesus for ourselves and putting our trust in him.  Faith isn't about physical or scientific evidence.  It is about a relationship which may be impossible to define.

Meanwhile, St Andrew's continues with a full timetable of activities.  This Saturday, 18th April, between 10am and 12 noon, there is Coffee Shop in the Chapter House along with our regular and well established Craft and Chat.  If you are still in the dark about what this is all about then you are of course welcome to come and see as well as having a hot beverage. On Saturday, 25th April, there will be another MU Quiet Day in church, between 10am to 3pm.  The theme will be The Emmaus Road and the occasion will be led by the Reverend Barbara.  Holy Communion will be at 2:30pm, officiated by Reverend Liz.  Lunch is provided.  Participants do not have to remain throughout the programmed day.  You are welcome, for instance, to recieve the Eucharist.

Well, that will do for this first write-up in about 13 weeks.  More will of course be forthcoming.  The author of this is just getting used to being back in harness. You can find out more from the notice boards and our website.
