Heating Project Update

Heating Works Update
Work has began well on the replacement of our heating system. Work commenced with the removal of asbestos from both the boiler house and the priests vestry. Only low levels of asbestos existed and so this work was completed in only a couple of days.

The old boiler was removed in sections and the boiler house cleared of many items that had been accumulated over the years including 12 bottles of home made wine, but alas the corks had rotted and the wine was undrinkable.

The large cast iron pipes that ran the length of the church, beneath the black grates, were the next to be removed. These were very heavy and it took a few days to remove them all. Down each of the black grates there ran 4 x 6 inch pipes. These pipes had worked like a large radiator and delivered most of the heat into the church.

With most of the old system now removed work has now turned to lifting the flag stones in the area just outside the vestry door, here heating pipes run beneath the flag stones to connect to radiators in the north aisle. Again this has been tough work, the flag stones are heavy and well bedded on limecrete and concrete.

As we write this update, many lengths of pipe and couplings that we have been busy buying over the last few months have started to arrive into the church. These will start very soon to create the new heating system.
